The MARC will welcome more than 100 artists from all over North America at the 9th Plein Air Moab painting competition. The weeklong festival will take place Saturday, Oct. 6 through Saturday, Oct. 13. Attendees can view and buy fresh paintings beginning Tuesday, Oct. 9.
On Monday, Oct. 8 there will be a classical guitar concert by Jack Cimo as the event begins. On Tuesday, Oct. 9 at 7 p.m. participants will honor dark sky efforts at a “Nocturne Paint-Out” awards reception and story-telling event.
On Friday, Oct. 12 there will be an awards reception for paintings of Arches National Park, followed by an open mic event. Then the Red Rock Street Fest will be held on Saturday, Oct. 13 from noon to 7 p.m. at the MARC. Held in conjunction with October’s Moab ArtWalk there will be two live music stages, an art market, food court, chalk art competition, and sculpture tour.
“The Red Rock Arts Festival plein air competition offers a rare chance to see artists in action and then to purchase their original artwork,” organizers said in a statement. “Painters work to capture the surrounding landscape and can often be seen along roadways, trails and even the streets of downtown Moab any time between Oct. 6 and Oct. 13. Artists compete for big prize money, inspire and learn from one another, while doing what they love – painting.”
RRAF attracts amateur and professional artists from all over the U.S. Artist styles vary from the detailed to the expressive. “Expect to find art for an investment of $20- $1,500. Each artist sets his or her own price, and art enthusiasts can delight in finding something they love among the myriad of options,” organizers said.
More than 300 pieces of artwork will go on sale Tuesday afternoon, Oct. 9. The MARC staff is collaborating with local and regional nonprofits, businesses and individuals to offer a diverse variety of programming and sponsorships.
