Sheryl Lee Norton passed away Wednesday, May 28, 2008 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Grand Junction, Colo. Sheryl was the first of five children born to Henry Wayne and Ramona Jane Ehlinger Norton.
Sheryl was born Oct. 15, 1946 in Stambaugh, Mich. She was 61 years old.
Sheryl graduated from Grand County High School in 1967 and was a faithful member of the St. Pius X Catholic Church. She spent every Saturday evening in the same pew.
Many will remember her for her needlework at the annual Christmas craft fair where she sold her many pillowcases and raffled her tablecloths.
She was known for her dry wit; she would never intentionally hurt anyone, but could be painfully honest from time to time. She could be seen riding around town with her mom Ramona and little dog Charlie.
Sheryl was preceded in death by her grandparents, Joseph and Henrietta Ehlinger of Iron River, Mich., and Floyd and Jessie Norton of Michigan.
Sheryl is survived by her mother and father, Wayne and Ramona Norton of Moab; her sister, Lynn (Jim) Mosher of Colorado Springs, Colo.; her brothers, Bill (Debra) Norton of Layton, Utah, Greg (Ingrid) Norton of Payton, Colo., and Alan (Sandy) Norton of Moab. She is also survived by her nieces and nephews, Wyllie Norton, Joe Christensen, Wendy Norton, Trin Norton, Travis Norton, Wayne Norton, Little Wayne, Bjorn Neider, Rabea Perez, Stephen Mosher, Jackie Mosher, Damian Lorenzo, Shanice Lorenzo, Tiffany Christensen, Justice Norton, Shantell Rose Mosher and Ian Neider.
Sheryl was actor John Wayne’s biggest and most devout fan; she watched his movies every night before bed, and, in fact, wore out several copies of “The Green Beret.”
Sheryl enjoyed Thursday night bingo with her friends and their shouts of O69. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her, especially her family and dog, Charlie.
