Shirley B. Grain was born in Moab, on November 7, 1924. She died peacefully in her home in Vista, Calif., on May 2, 2008.
Shirley lived in Monrovia, Calif., and attended Monrovia Arcadia Duarte High School. She continued her education at U.C.L.A., graduating on Feb. 23, 1946, with a Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in Spanish.
She moved to Illinois where she married Ed Grain and enjoyed a successful career in real estate. After returning to California, she moved to Vista. She was an avid birder and member of the Audubon Society. Shirley also donated her time as a docent at the Torrey Pines Nature Reserve.
Shirley was predeceased by her parents, Etta Mae Elmer and Victor Roy Bush, her eldest brother, Vincent Bush, and her late husband, Ed Grain.
Shirley is survived/remembered by her older brother, Ward “Bud” Bush, his wife, Elinor “Ellie,” their children, Alan, Kris, Debbie, Brad, and Dianne Marie and their families; Randy, her nephew, and his family; her half-sister Helen Canipe and her family; and her four stepchildren, Mary Ellen, Ed Jr., Patti, and Peter and their families.
Her childhood friend and recent companion, Robert “Ernie” Ball, and her two furry felines, Maggie and Zorro will miss her.
