Louise West Claus, 1925 ~ 2008

Former Moab resident Louise West Claus, 83, passed away on Friday, Aug. 15 at the Aspen Ridge Care Facility in Grand Junction, Colo.

She was born Nov. 21, 1925 in Ogden, Utah and moved to Moab in 1956. She lived in Moab until 2006 when she moved to Grand Junction. Louise is survived by three sons, John (Jean) West, Alan (Trish) West, and Neal West, all of Moab; a sister Janet Putnam of Randolph, Utah; eight grandchildren, Mike, Mark, Clarissa, Kelly, Ashley, Cadee, Savannah, and Austin, and seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Dr. Ray West, and second husband, Edward J. Claus, her parents, Toby and Grace Larsen, twin sister, Lucille Harlin, sister, Nancy Pipin, and niece, Caroline Hill.

Louise worked in Moab as a teacher and secretary. She was a member of Eastern Star and Job’s Daughters.

She loved camping, cooking, arrow-head hunting, reading, and traveling the world. She especially loved taking cruises with her family. Louise enjoyed the company of her Persian cats, George and Grade. Louise will be missed by her family, and especially by her “special” granddaughter Clarissa, who shared a unique and special bond.

A celebration of her life was held Wednesday, Aug. 20 at 11 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Moab.

Services are under the direction of Kimmerle-Hefner Funeral Home, with Pastor Geoff Thomas officiating.
