JoKeith (Jody) Hayes passed away on Aug. 27, 2008, due to natural causes at the LaVilla Grande Nursing Home in Grand Junction, Colo. She was 86.
Jody is survived by one son, Denny Hayes, of Thousand Palms, Calif. and two daughters, Betty Jo Gillespie (Dave) of Pueblo, Colo., and Becky Ripper (Tom) of Grand Junction. She was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, George Hayes, and one daughter, Gwynn Sundwall. She is also survived by 16 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.
Jody was born March 15, 1922 at Altheimer, Ark. She moved to Southern California at age 3 and remained in Los Angeles until 1955 when she and her husband, George Hayes, moved to Moab, during the uranium boom. Together they owned and operated Plateau Trailer Village and Hayes Appliance Service.
She was an active member of Community Church serving as church hostess for over 30 years. She was also an active member of the American Legion Auxiliary. Jody’s greatest loves in life were her children and grandchildren. Her pleasures were quilting, yard sales, sewing, table games (especially cards), watching movie classics and big band, country and inspirational music.
Memorial services will be held at Community Church in Moab on Saturday, Sept. 13 at 10 a.m.
