Kathryn Hutchins, 1917 ~ 2008

Kathryn (Kay) Emma Hutchins passed away Saturday, Oct. 4, 2008 in Grand Junction, Colo. She had been a resident at LaVilla Grande Care Center for the past several years. She was 91 years old.

Born March 9, 1917 in Findley, Ohio to Hugh O. and Bernice M. Bair Berno. The family moved to Kansas in 1927 where she attended school in Greenwood County grade school, and finished high school in Eureka, Kansas.

She married Frederick Hutchins in McPherson, Kan. on July 3, 1938. They moved to Nucla, Colo., spending more than 40 years before retiring to Moab, Utah to be near their son Harry and his family.

Kay worked with Girl Scouts, Cub Scouts, American Legion auxiliary president and secretary, and member of the PTA. While living in Moab, Kay volunteered as a pink Lady at Allen Memorial Hospital and belonged to RSVP. Her hobbies were flower gardening, crocheting, craft work, fishing, camping, and traveling. She was preceded in death by husband Frederick, a brother, Donald, and a sister, Betty Jean.

She is survived by a sister, Isabelle, a son Harry and his wife Barbara. four grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, one fourth-generation granddaughter, and one fifth-generation grandson.
