Charles David Martin passed away at his home in Moab, Utah on Oct. 20, 2008, surrounded by his family, after a long bout with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. David was born on June 5, 1925 in Hollywood, Calif., the only child of R. Raymond Martin and Grace Adeline Grill. He graduated from Hollywood High School and served as a Navy Seabee during WWII in the Pacific Theatre from 1942 to 1946.
After returning home, he met and married Gladys VanDyke on Jan. 1, 1949. The couple lived in California for many years, where he worked as a sales manager in the telecommunications industry. Following his retirement, the family moved to Moab in 1981. In Moab, David loved jeeping, photography, reading, and spending time with his family.
He is preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Gladys; daughter, Susan Wagner of Moab; and many extended family members and dear friends. Cremation has taken place and no public services will take place. Arrangements are by Kimmerle-Hefner Funeral Home.
