James R. Rayburn, age 68, a resident of Rociada, N.M. for the past six years, and a former resident of Moab and Cortez, Colo., passed away on Tuesday, Nov. 4, 2008 at his home.
He was born in Vincennes, Ind. on Aug. 6, 1940 to Harold J. Rayburn and Iris Geneva Stafford and was united in marriage to Barbara R. Scott.
He was a dedicated community banker for 41 years. Jim retired from the Zions National Bank in Moab in 2002. He also served as executive vice-president at the First National Bank in La Jara, Colo., and Bank of Las Vegas and Citizens State Bank in Cortez, Colo.
Jim graduated from Texas Tech University and began his career as a national bank examiner for the U.S. Department of Treasury.
Jim will be well remembered for his enthusiasm for golf, hunting, fishing, books and a good card game.
He was a former member of the Civitan and Rotary organizations and a member of the Mountain View Church of Christ in Las Vegas, N.M.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold J. and Iris Geneva Rayburn.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara Rayburn of the family home in Rociada, N.M.; sons, Jimmy Rayburn and wife Jeanne of Albuquerque, N.M., Joe Rayburn and wife Kathleen of Bayfield, Colo., and Dan Rayburn and wife Michelle of Phoenix, AZ.; daughters, Kristi Quintana and husband Al of Alamosa, Colo., Lisa Sandoval and husband Ruben of Manassa, Colo.; a brother, Don Rayburn and wife Leslie of Kerrville, Tex.; 12 grandchildren; numerous other relatives and many friends.
Cremation has taken place. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, Nov. 8, at 11 a.m. at the Church of Christ on Mountain View Drive, Las Vegas, N.M., with Hunt Zumwalt officiating.
