George “Roger” Huckins, 1927 ~ 2008

George “Roger” Huckins, 81, of Moab died Nov. 8, 2008 in St. Mary’s Hospital, Grand Junction, Colo., following a brief illness.

Roger was born on June 8, 1927 in Hanover, N.H., to Hazel (Williams) and George Clifton Huckins of Orfordville, N.H.

He graduated from Orford High School in 1945. After high school he served in the U.S. Army as a medic during WWII. Following his service he received a degree from the University of New Hampshire.

Roger moved to Los Alamos, N.M., where he worked for the Atomic Energy Commission for many years. Following his retirement, he moved to Albuquerque, N.M., then to Moab, where he was a dear friend to many.

Roger contributed to his community as a volunteer for the Grand County Public Library, the Moab Music Festival, and Grand Area Mentoring.

He is survived by his sisters, Shirley Noyes of Claremont, N.H., Helen Marsh of Fairlee, Vt., and Barbara White of Tucson, Ariz., several nieces and nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Clayton, and sister, Frances Gould.

A memorial service will be held at the Moab Arts and Recreation Center, (111 East 100 North) on Sunday Nov. 16 at 7 pm.
