Jean E. Davis, 1931 ~ 2008

Jean Earlene Davis passed away at home on Thursday, Dec. 4, 2008. She was 77. Jean was born on April 12, 1931 in Glenwood Springs, Colo. to Hugh Patrick Flynn and Eva Elizabeth (Chase) Flynn.

Jean was raised in the Divide Creek area, later moving to Rifle, Colo. and spending some time in Las Vegas, Nev. working. On May 20, 1955, she married Raymond A. Davis, Sr. and to this union was born four children: Betty, Raymond, Joe and Twyla.

Ray and Jean spent much of their married life chasing the mining and construction circuits. During their 50 years of marriage they lived in Colorado, Utah, California, Arizona, Oklahoma, and Iowa, finally retiring in Colorado.

Jean was a wife, mother and homemaker. She enjoyed reading, cooking, crocheting, photography and travel. Her many trips across the border to Mexico and her trip through California’s wine country were among her fondest memories.

Additionally, Jean enjoyed yard sales, swap meets and junk (antique) stores. Jean’s greatest love was of her family, especially as grandchildren became young adults. Grandma Jean could often be found on her porch or in her recliner holding court with her favorite kids (all seven, or as many as were available at the time).

Jean was preceded in death by her parents, Eva Flynn, Hugh Flynn and stepmother Katherine Dean Flynn; her sisters, Patricia Dupey, Dorothy Flynn, Helen Flynn and Gladys Jones; her brothers, William Flynn, Floyd Dean and Jack Dean, and her husband, Raymond A. Davis, Sr.

Jean is survived by her children, Betty (Karl) Stephens, Raymond (Nora) Davis II, Joe Davis, and Twyla Davis, all of the Nucla area; her grandchildren, Jessica (Chris) Whren of Nucla, Colo., Nichole Stephens of Columbia, Mo., Yevtte Davis of San Diego, Calif., Raymond Davis III of Denver, Colo., Rachael Davis of Rifle, Colo., Jeremy Stephens of Boulder, Colo., Duana Davis of Rifle, Colo., and her great grandsons, Tanner and Jarrod Whren of Nucla, Colo.

Additionally, she is survived by her sisters, Betty Rooks of Broomfield, Colo., Mary Ann Bogani and Pearl Waterfield of Grand Junction, Colo.; her brothers, Hugh (Ruth) Flynn of Grand Junction, Colo., Doug (Pat) Dean of Arizona, and Howard (Lorraine) Dean of Cedaredge, Colo., a sister-in-law, Alma Fern Dean of Grand Junction, Colo., and a niece, Barbara Dupey, of Palisade, Colo.

Services were at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 10, at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church in Nucla, Colo., followed by interment at the Nucla Cemetery and a dinner at the Moose Lodge.
