Laurence E. “Larry” Riordan was born April 21, 1913, near Dove Creek, Colo. to Owen and Jesse Riordan. He passed away Nov. 6, 2008 in Mesa, Ariz. Larry’s family moved to Moab in 1917.
Larry graduated from Grand County High School in 1932. The family then moved to Grand Junction, Colo., where Larry attended Mesa Junior College. After graduation there he continued his education at Colorado State University. His education years were interrupted by WWII, where Larry served in the Army Corps of Engineers, stationed in Burma.
Upon his discharge as a captain, he returned to Colorado State University to complete his education. He was employed by the Colorado Game, Fish and Parks (now Colorado Division of Wildlife), serving as an assistant director for most of that time.
Larry was preceded in death by his wife, Susan, infant brother, Andrew, brother, Bob, and sister, Helen. He is survived by a nephew, Michael Riordan and wife Ann, and longtime friend, Iola Baker.
A memorial service will be held on March 7, in Mesa, Ariz., at the Mesa Spirit RV Resort, 3020 East Main St., at 9:30 a.m.
