James Michael “Hawk” Davis, age 62, passed away at his home May 4, 2009, in Moab. He was born Sept. 26, 1946 in Cedar City, Utah to James Dee and Barbara Davis. He was the oldest of three brothers.
Mike attended Cedar High School and graduated from Southern Utah State College in 1971. He was an outstanding student in business and accounting. He was honored in the book of “Who’s Who.” He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and was stationed in Germany.
He married Linda Montgomery and had two children: Darold Dee Davis and Darcy DeVon Hillyard. He and Linda later divorced. He later married Mary Ann Lear on July 7, 2001.
Mike lived in Brian Head, Utah for four years and then moved to Paragonah and lived there for 13 years. He worked for LeGrand Johnson Construction Company in Moab for 18 years and, because of illness, he had to retire early.
He loved hunting with his family, family outings and was an avid reader, enjoying history, and learned to speed read in college. He spent a lot of time in his woodshop working on crafts.
Mike will be dearly missed by his wife, Mary Ann Davis; children, Darold Dee Davis and Darcy DeVon Hillyard, and Heather Stilson; his six grandchildren, Shantele Davis, Ian Davis, Drayton Hillyard, Kayson Hillyard, Devon Dixon, Morgan Stilson; mother, Barbara Davis; two brothers, Lynn (Kari) Davis and Bradley “Chick” (DaNean) Davis.
Graveside services were held Saturday, May 9, at 1 p.m., at the Cedar City Cemetery, Cedar City, Utah. A visitation was held from 11 a.m., to 12:30 p.m., at the Cedar City LDS 4th Ward Chapel, 500 W. 400 N., Cedar City, prior to graveside services.
