Joy Bernita Perkins Borchardt, 78, passed away on Monday, Aug. 17, 2009, at Allen Memorial Hospital.
Joy was born on Feb. 28, 1932 to David Martin and Laura Emiline Allen Perkins in Moab. She graduated in 1951 from Grand County High School.
She later moved to Nucla, Colo., and married John Bochardt. She worked their farm for many years until John’s passing. Joy returned to Moab in 1990.
Joy was a homemaker, an avid quilter/seamstress, and an avid reader and gardener. She loved being at the Grand Center with the seniors – this was her home away from home. She spent numerous hours quilting and playing cards.
She was a very special sister, aunt and friend and will be missed by all those who knew and loved her.
She was the youngest of 13 children and is survived by two brothers, Billy (Paula) Perkins of Tooele, Utah, and Clyde (Unagene) Perkins of St. George, Utah; a very special niece, JoAnn (Corky) Key, of Moab, and their children, Kenny (Kathy) Key, Tammy (Dee) Taylor, Danny (Mary) Key and Karen (Jim) Braggs, all of Moab. She is also survived by numerous other nephews and nieces.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and 10 brothers and sisters.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday Aug. 25, at 11 a.m. at the LDS Chapel located on 400 North. A viewing will be held on Monday, Aug. 24, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Spanish Valley Mortuary, and on Tuesday from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. at the church prior to the service. Interment will follow at the Grand Valley Cemetery.
