Services for Josabel Davidson, 95, of Lorenzo, Tex. were held Saturday, Sept. 12, at Hico First Baptist Church. Burial was in Duffau Cemetery under direction of Adams Funeral Home of Lorenzo.
Josabel passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 9, 2009 at VistaCare Hospice in Lubbock, Tex. She was born Feb. 9, 1914 in Decatur to the late Benjamin and Annie (Skaggs) Rice. She moved to West Texas when she was nine and graduated valedictorian of her class at Vega High School in Vega, Tex.
She attended West Texas Normal School in Canyon, Texas and earned her bachelor of science in Elementary Education and got her teaching certificate. She began teaching at the age of 18 in a one room school house.
She married Paul Davidson on Aug. 23, 1941 in Acuff, Tex. During WWII she worked at Consolidated on the B33 airplane.
She taught school for many years in Texas and Moab, Utah. After retiring, she and her husband traveled the U. S., many of those miles on motorcycle. She was a teacher and homemaker, helping at the nursing home and taking care of her friends and neighbors. She enjoyed working in her yard and garden, reading, painting and quilting. She was a Baptist and always active in her church.
Survivors include three sons, Ben (Cindy) Davidson of Cedar City, Utah, Roger (Paula) Davidson of South Hill, Va., and Paul (Peggy) Davidson of Waxahachie, Tex.; a daughter, Paula (Lester) Bownds of Lorenzo, Tex.; six grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Cora Cox of Comanche, Tex. and Nola Whalen of San Dimas, Calif.; many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, in 2000, parents, and four brothers, Howard, E. C., Ralph and Doyle Rice.
