Mary Z. Allen passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 20, 2009. She was born in Hughes Springs, Tex., to Sam and Naomi Newby on Feb. 3, 1924.
She grew up in Texas and lived for a time in Hawaii, then moved to San Francisco, where she worked for Eastman Kodak during WWII screening GI letters called V-mail for military secrets.
Mary came to Moab to work for Charlie Steen’s mother, Rosalie, as a personal assistant in 1953.
She married David Allen on Oct. 2, 1954. They celebrated 55 years together this year.
Her son, David W. Allen, preceded her in death, along with her parents, three sisters, and a brother.
She is survived by her husband, her daughters, Susie Johnston (Dwight), and Andee Allen, and nine grandchildren.
A graveside service was held at Sunset Memorial Cemetery in Moab.
