The one and only true love of our father, B.D. Howard, and our brave, loving, and beautiful mother left this earth to be welcomed into the arms of our savior on April 15, 2010. Mom passed peacefully and calmly with her love of her life standing by her side. She fought a tough battle to relentless illness for some time and now, finally, she can be free of her pain and suffering to prepare a calm and peaceful heavenly home for her husband and family to join her again.
Mom is survived by her husband B.D. Howard, and three sons and their wives, Larry and Debbie Howard, Philip and Ana Howard, and Robert and Karrie Howard. Included with Mom’s family are 13 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Mom was born May 10, 1927 to Harold and Bessie McDonald in Danville, Ill., along with three sisters and one step-brother. Mom met our father, B.D., in California, where they were married in 1959 and soon to be transferred to Big Wonderful Wyoming. There in Worland, Wyo., Betty and B.D. raised a family of three boys to learn how to work hard, play hard, and earn their independence.
Mom was an extremely loyal and loving wife to her soul mate B.D. They gave so much of their time and talents to their neighborhood and friends. Mom was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was always excited to serve in her ward.
Mom was always trying to assist anyone in need. She supported the heavy laden and lifted the meek and weary. Mom served a two-year mission for the LDS Church with Dad in the Kirtland Ohio, Johnson Home, Hyram, Ohio Mission in the late 1980s. After completion of that mission, Mom and Dad hit the road to travel and seek out a warmer, dryer climate. They came across Moab, Utah, where they settled down and made their retirement home for the last 20 years. Moab was the place to be and where they would find a host of loving, caring people again to fill in their lives and happiness.
Mom was always a lovely lady and had so much charisma. She will be missed beyond words. We are sure that she is making a home and a comfortable nest for her loving husband B.D. and the rest of her children in the life to come.
God Bless you Betty Howard, Mom, and in the words of our Dad, “My Little Sweetheart;” we look forward to seeing you again some day and we know we will. Love always, your loving family.
Funeral Services were held Monday April 19, at the Moab LDS Church, at noon. Burial services were held at the Moab Cemetery immediately following the services.
