Betty Jean Beck was born in Leadville, Colo., on Feb. 18, 1933, to Edith R. and Jeff W. Taylor of Minturn, Colo. She passed away July 25, 2010.
Betty graduated from Loretta Heights Catholic School for girls in Denver, Colo., then she graduated from beauty college and began her career as a beautician.
In 1951, Betty and Thomas F. Beck were married. They had three children, Bruce L. Beck, Marilyn J. Beck and Ron F. Beck. In 1955, Betty and her family moved to Moab, during the uranium boom.
In 1959, Betty and Thomas separated. In 1961, Betty married Howard Russell and moved to Colorado, where Gary Russell was born. In 1963, Betty and Howard Russell divorced and Betty and family moved back to Moab.
During the past 47 years in Moab, Betty enjoyed all of the ladies who came to see her on a regular basis because of her beautician talents. These same ladies became her friends and colleagues.
Betty was a devoted Catholic, serving in the Altar Society and participating in all of the church functions. Betty went beyond the church and contributed her time and resources to the less fortunate.
It is impossible to truly describe Betty Beck’s life in such a short biography because she had been so active near and far.
Betty has been loved by everyone who knew her, and she will be greatly missed.
A vigil service will be held for Betty on Monday, Aug. 2 at 6:30 p.m. at St. Pius X Catholic Church in Moab. A memorial Mass will be held Tuesday, Aug. 3 at 9:30 a.m. at St. Pius X.
