Kathryn Emily Cresswell, 80, passed away just as the sun was setting on Monday, Dec. 6, 2010 in Moab, Utah, with her sons by her side.
Kathie was born on May 10, 1930 in Seattle, Wash., to George and Irene Gilchrist. She was quarantined in her teens by tuberculosis. She was released and later married Bill Vater in 1949. They had three young sons – Mike, Terry, and Danny – when Bill passed away in 1957.
Kathie married Joseph Matthew Cresswell in 1960 and they moved to Show Low, Ariz., where two more sons – Matthew and Woody – joined the family. In 1973, they moved to Moab.
Kathie was a talented artist; she also enjoyed going to yard sales and league bowling with her loyal friends. She looked forward to the birthday trips she took every year with her dear friends to Wendover and Mesquite.
Kathie was preceded in death by her parents.
She deeply loved her boys and is survived by them: Mike, Terry, Danny, Matt, and Woody; her 11 grandchildren; and her two sisters, Marilyn and Shirley. Her sweet daughter-in-law, Heidi, patiently and lovingly cared for her as a daughter would, which allowed her to stay in her home with her family as her health failed.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Dec. 11, at 11:30 a.m. at the LDS Stake Center on Locust Lane with interment in the Sunset Memorial Cemetery. A viewing will be held prior to the funeral at 10 a.m. Funeral arrangements are by Kimmerle-Hefner Funeral Home.
