Van Jason Hartenstine passed away peacefully in his sleep due to a heart attack on Friday, Jan. 21, 2011. Van was born Oct. 23, 1962, to Annabelle and Neil Hartenstine and had an adventurous childhood in Africa and Greece.
He loved to explore with his older brother Troy, and later loved to tell of their great adventures.
He loved life and loved to cook. Food was his passion. He was a very talented chef and dreamed of someday owning his own restaurant.
Van was survived by the love of his life, Robin McGann, and her daughters, Molly McGann and Kelly Caylor; his son, Nevah Hartenstine of Maryland; his mother and stepfather, Annabelle and Kirn Kimball of Denver, Colo.; his father, Neil Hartenstine, of Miami, Fla.; and his brother, Troy Hartenstine, of San Francisco, Calif.
Van loved his role as a grandpa to Zander and Kenadie Stocks and Kielyn Caylor. They spent hours playing with Papa’s trains and adored their Papa Van. Van was grateful that in his recent travels he was able to visit and spend time with the family he adored.
We will be having a celebration of his life on Monday, Jan. 31, 2011 at 2 p.m. at the Rotary Park.
