June Elaine Peterson Ray ascended to heaven on Monday, April 25, 2011 at the age of 72. June was born Nov. 30, 1938, in Grand Junction, Colo., and was raised on the family dairy farm where, as a young girl, she drove tractors and rounded up cows, horses, and peacocks.
She attended Mesa College and was a member of the “Steperette” dance team. At the age of 20, she moved to Moab, Utah where she met and married Donald Ray, and began a lifelong journey through the oil fields of the world.
She was a devout Christian and a devoted and enthusiastic student of the Bible. She worked as a substitute teacher in South Texas, and volunteered at a Slidell daycare facility, working with children. She was a brilliant bridge player and an active member of the St. Tammany Bridge Club. She was previously a member of the KL Bridge Club of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and the Campo Verde Bridge Club of Tia Juana, Venezuela. She was also a member of the Palm Lake Garden Club.
June is survived by her husband of 50 years, Donald Ray; by her brother, Dale Peterson and wife Barbara; by her children, Carmen Selby, Daniel Ray and wife Cindy, Thomas Ray and wife Wendy, and Robert Ray; and by her seven grandsons, Keegan Selby, Walker Ray, Brett Ray, Trevor Ray, Joshua Ray, Justin Ray, and Nathan Ray. She is also survived by nieces, Lori Squires, Teri Thomas, Sheri Taus, and Vicki Johnson and their children.
She will be remembered by her family, her prayer group, the Huddle, and by her many friends around the world.
A memorial service was held at Bethany Lutheran Church in Slidell, La. on Friday, April 29. Arrangements were by Bagnell & Son Funeral Home of Covington, La.
