Joseph Nelson, also known as Joe Daddy, passed away to be with his Lord on Wednesday, May 18, 2011 at Moab Regional Hospital. He was born on Feb. 18, 1968, in Crosby Minn.
Joe was known as someone with an open heart and open door, who never turned anyone away. He got his nickname “Joe Daddy” from his daughters. He didn’t like his other nicknames so his daughters started calling him Joe Daddy instead, which stuck with some of his friends as well. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church.
He is survived by his two daughters, Toni Louise and Kelley Lynn; his mother, Mary Mays; and father, Emmett Mays; two brothers, Wesley Nelson Jr. and Greg Nelson; one sister, Jill Robinson (Mike); two step-brothers, Van Mays (Chris) and Kelly Mays (Richelle); step-sister, Valarie Atkins (Blake), step-sister Keely Mower and one step-bother Kevin Holderness. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles, as well as many, many friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Wesley Nelson Sr., and two brothers, Bradley and Jeffrey.
Services were held at the Grace Lutheran Church in Moab on Monday, May 23, with burial at Sunset Memorial Cemetery in Moab, Utah.
