Mathew Michael Smith passed away at his home in Bloomfield, N.M. on Feb. 14, 2012.
Mat was born in Moab, Utah on July 9, 1968, to Ben and Paula Smith. His family left Moab when he was young and they lived in many different states. They returned to Moab in 1984. He graduated from Grand County High School. Mat then obtained an associate’s degree from ITT-Tech. Mat moved to Bloomfield, N.M., where he worked for the Williams Company for many years.
Mat was a wonderful father and loved spending time with his boys and dogs. He loved the outdoors, riding four-wheelers, jeeping, and boating with his family. He also loved NASCAR. Mat was a great friend to all who knew him.
Mat is survived by his two sons, Bryce Michael and Corey Mathew; his parents, Ben and Paula; sister, Susan and her kids Justin, Ashley (Michael), and Kristin; two great-nieces, Aspen and Kassidy; along with many aunts, uncles, cousins and extended family. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Ben and Mary Smith and Garn Riddle and Miles (Red) and Bernice Gunter.
Memorial services were held in Moab, Utah on Feb. 21, at 11 a.m. at Spanish Valley Mortuary, with interment at Sunset Memorial Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Humane Society.
