Don Michael “Mike” Meador passed away Feb. 10, 2012 from complications following a stroke. He was 69 years old.
Mike was born July 26, 1942 in Moab, Utah, to Carroll Junior Meador and Lorraine Halverson. He was the grandson of Carroll and Gwyn Meador, and Sid and Lucille Pace. He married Lauralee Mitchell April 15, 1963 in Colorado.
Mike was a retired educator and avid coach, having spent 35 years teaching and coaching in Rock Springs, Wyo., Bloomfield, N.M., and finishing in Dillingham, Alaska. He truly loved to help kids learn and grow as young adults.
His hobbies included hunting, fishing, fly tying, being in the outdoors, reading and talking to whomever would listen.
Mike was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Carroll and Gwyn Meador; maternal grandparents, Sid and Lucille Pace; father, Carroll Junior Meador; sister, Carol Meador; father in‑law, G.V. “Mitch” Mitchell; and granddaughter, Sydney Nicole Burnett.
Survivors include his mother, Lorraine and husband Gail S. Halverson of Amado, Ariz; wife, Lauralee Meador of Placerville, Calif.; brother, Terry Meador and family of Rock Springs, Wyo.; sister, Toni and John Garraffa and family of Billings, Mont.; sister, Cheri Meador‑Murrish and family of Redway, Calif.; sister, Mary Meador and family of Bosque Farm, NM, Brother Greg Mitchell and family of Atherton, Calif., and Brother G.V. Mitchell and family of West Valley, Utah; daughter, Nikki Ann and Mark McCulley of Rock Springs, Wyo.; son, Burt Meador of Rock Springs, Wyo.; daughter, Pepper Lee and Travis Burnett of Soldotna, Alaska; grandsons, Andrew Joseph McCulley of Laramie, Wyo., and Zachary Jacob McCulley of Rock Springs, Wyo.; granddaughters, Paytience Lee Burnett and Taylor Ann Burnett of Soldotna, Alaska; great aunt, Vonda Wise; aunt, Donna Reid and family; and uncle Bill and Inalyn Meador and family of Moab, Utah; along with numerous cousins, nephews, and nieces.
A private service will be held with family after cremation.
