In the late afternoon of March 5, 2012, Joan Evelyn Keith Daniels passed away in the home she had occupied for the past 51 years, with family present. Joan passed away from complications associated with age and cancer.
Joan was born in Salt Lake City, Utah, on April 17, 1930, to Nellie Keith. Joan lived for many years in Grand Junction, Colo., where she married Terry Daniels in July of 1948. She and Terry resided there until 1958, when they moved to Moab. Joan and Terry raised two children, Debra and Michael. They were married for 33 years before they divorced in 1981.
Joan worked for the Moab medical center for doctors in the Walker Drug building and for P&K Ford for a number of years. She was a member of the Moab dinner dance club, the Beta Sigma Phi sorority of Moab, the bridge club, and enjoyed many social activities in her younger years when Moab was a much different city.
She enjoyed baseball, watching her granddaughter and great-granddaughters play baseball, reading and appreciating the library staff for taking care of her and, most of all, Friday afternoons at Laura Wright’s hair salon.
Joan is survived by her sister, Arlene Sacco and Ross, Salt Lake City; two children, Debra Sims, of Moab, and Michael Daniels and Paula of Holladay, Utah; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren, with one more great-grandson to be born in May of this year.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Nellie Flynn; ex-husband, Terry Daniels; and great-granddaughter, Chloe Sims.
A graveside service will be held in Grand Junction at a later date. The Daniels family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to the CNS nursing staff and their hospice staff that cared for Joan in her last months and days here on earth – they are truly angels. Please contribute to them and their cause; they are truly a godsend.
