Joanna Marie Hout, 1949 ~ 2012

Delta, Colo. resident Joanna Marie Hout passed away peacefully surrounded by her family after a courageous battle with lung cancer on Thursday, May 17, 2012, at her home in Delta. She was 62 years of age.

A funeral service honoring Joanna’s life was held Tuesday, May 22 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Delta, Colo. A viewing was held from 11:30 a.m. to service time at the church. Burial was held at the Delta City Cemetery.

Joanna Marie Edmisten was born to Lloyd R. and Avis Marie (Moore) Edmisten on Dec. 15, 1949 in Oklahoma City, Okla. She spent her childhood in various areas, including Moab, Utah, where she graduated from Grand County High School. Joanna furthered her education at the College of Eastern Utah in Price, where she earned her LPN degree. She later attended the Western Wyoming Community College in Rock Springs, Wyo., where she earned her RN degree.

On Sept. 19, 1992, Joanna married Jim F. Hout on Little Mountain, in Wyoming. The couple resided in Green River, Wyo., before moving to Delta nine years ago. Joanna and Jim would have celebrated their 20th wedding anniversary this year.

Joanna, a retired registered nurse, enjoyed spending time outdoors, whether she was hunting, four-wheeling or camping. She also enjoyed horseback riding and traveling with her family. More importantly, Joanna loved and cherished her family, especially her grandchildren.

Joanna was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Delta, Colo.

Joanna is survived by her husband of 20 years, Jim Hout of Delta; one son, Raymond Shupe and his wife Rebecca of Durango, Colo.; one daughter, Elizabeth Droge and her husband Byron of Farmington, Utah; one stepson, Jason Hout of Visalia, Calif.; and one sister, Donna Meadors and her husband Dan of Rock Springs, Wyo. Joanna is further survived by four grandchildren, Justin and Austin Shupe, Nathan Droge, and John Michael Hout; two nieces, Cami Walker and her husband Tim of Glenwood Springs, Colo., and Stacy Tonozzi and her husband Tay of Sandy, Utah; and one nephew, Michael Kemry of Florida.

Joanna was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Lloyd Edmisten Jr.; one sister, Vida Kemry; and one stepson, Eric P. Hout.

Arrangements were under the care and direction of Taylor Funeral Service and Crematory.
