It’s a big turnout for Arches Ultra

Mad Moose Events reigned in a big success with Arches Ultra, the first race of the season. Many runners from all walks of life showed up to kick off 2018 with a scenic trek around the rim of Arches National Park.

“It went really well,” said Mad Moose’s Justin Ricks. “We were excited about the turnout … just over 550 people started. It was a good first year event.”

The next Mad Moose event to be held in Moab will be the Canyonlands Half Marathon on March 17, right at the start of Moab’s busy tourist season.

Grand County High School cross country runner Ryan Lewis placed fifth in the half-marathon race, finishing with a time of 1:38:02. Andrea Olding and Sarah Labrec finished in 76th and 85th place, respectively. The top local finishers in the 9k were Arthur Hawks (No. 2 on a time of 38:45), Jameson Hawks (No. 5 on a time of 42:31), and Bella Welch, who finished fifth among all females in the 9k race at 48:54. Alexandra Odland finished the 50k in 168th place in 9:14:59.
