The City of Moab is asking area citizens to weigh in as the Moab City Council begins reviewing the proposed budget for the 2018 through 2019 fiscal year. The city is inviting community members to try out an online tool that will allow them to comment and suggest changes to the draft budget.
“The online tool is intended to more clearly explain where the city’s revenues come from and how spending is prioritized for the coming year,” said Moab City Manager David Everitt. “It also gives residents the opportunity to be more engaged in the city’s budgeting process.”
The budget tool is available online at moab.abalancingact.com/budget.Using this tool, community members can manipulate a pie chart to show what the budget would look like if, for example, the city spends more money on parks and recreation, or reduces capital projects. A bar at the top of the page shows whether the model budget created by the user is balanced or has a deficit or surplus. Citizens can also submit their own preferred model budget to the city as a suggestion, or make comments on the proposed city budget.
The city will hold a public hearing on the proposed budget on May 8 at 7:15 p.m. at the Moab City Council chambers, located at 217 East Center St.
The Moab City Council will accept comments on the proposed budget until May 22, when the council is scheduled to vote on the final budget. Comments may be emailed to [email protected] or mailed or hand-delivered to Moab City Council, 217 East Center St., Moab, UT 84532.
