The Times-Independent retracts its June 28, 2018 story about Gregorio Hernandez. The information was wrong. We erroneously reported that Gregorio Hernandez, Jr. would stand trial for aggravated sexual abuse of a child. That was incorrect. Those charges were dropped, and Hernandez instead pled guilty May 22 to child abuse, a class B misdemeanor, according to Grand County Attorney Andrew Fitzgerald. During the May 22 hearing, Fitzgerald stated that the guardian ad litem indicated that testifying would be very harmful to the victim so they wanted to resolve the case without going to trial. According to the sentencing document, “The defendant is sentenced to a term of 6 month(s). The total time suspended for this charge is 6 month(s).” We regret the error.
