James ‘Jimmie’ Robert Walker, 1928~2018

It is with great sadness that the family of James “Jimmie” Robert Walker announces his passing, after a brief illness on July 11, 2018 at age 90.

Born in 1928 in Moab, Jimmie graduated at Grand County High School in 1946. Self-taught in geology, he saw success from the 1950s to 2008 in the uranium business. His love of country, the Constitution and Moab brought him to loyally serve as county commissioner for 12 years.

Jimmie was passionate about God, family, music, church, fly fishing, and chocolate. He sang for Moab events such as weddings and funerals for over 60 years. As a member of the Community Church you would see him singing in the choir for about 50 years.

The first of many children was named Mike and his mother was Marjorie Smith. He married Kit England in 1957 and adopted her three children Larry, Kevin, and Laurelei. Together they welcomed Wendy in 1959. He married Dorothy Knitig in 1973 and raised her three children Marcia, Janice, and Shelly. Their marriage continued until his passing.

Jimmie had an abundance of enthusiasm, wit, and unconditional love. When you finished speaking with him that energy stayed with you for hours, and you knew he passed on the love. He will forever be remembered by his nieces, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and friends.

Funeral Services will be held Thursday, July 19, 2018 at 10 a.m. at the Community Church. A viewing will be held Wednesday, July 18, 2018 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Spanish Valley Mortuary. Interment will follow at the Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to New Hope Arches Pregnancy Center.
