State requests $7M for senior housing project

A plan to build a $7 million, 360-unit affordable senior housing project in Moab is poised to move forward.

A finding of no significant impact at the site in the 300 block of West Williams Way conducted by the state Department of Workforce Services’ Housing and Community Development Division opened the door to request federal funds from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. The Housing Authority of Southeastern Utah is developing the MAPS Senior Living LLC project, according to a legal notice that is scheduled to be published in the Aug. 30 edition of The Times-Independent.

A finding of no significant impact on the “human environment” will allow the project to avoid an often lengthy and expensive environmental impact study, according to the notice. Members of the public who disagree with the finding can submit written concerns to the State of Utah, Department of Workforce Services, Housing & Community Development Division, ATTN: Cheryl Brown, 1385 S. State, 4th Floor, Salt Lake City, Utah, 84115, by Sept. 14.
