Support for e-bikes

Editor,

E-bikes have changed my life. I have traveled to Moab for 15 years to bike ride and support restaurants, stores and outfitters. Because of a knee giving me more and more trouble, I have pretty much given up riding with my 17-year-old son and he is the next generation of rider. With my new e-bike I can again ride with him and enjoy the open spaces of bike riding.

But please. Let’s get the facts right about e-bikes that are modern or should be a criteria for riding. They only go up to 20 miles an hour with power assist. That means you are pumping peddles just like a regular mountain bike and at 20 mph it cuts out power and you are on your own. There is no gas peddle to push or twist like a motorcycle. If you do not peddle there is no power at all. It only offers assist power. Other than that there is no difference in their footprint.

Please help those with a disability ride again.
