As the season draws to a close, the Grand County High School volleyball team was able to notch two road wins against region opponents.
On Friday, Oct. 12, the Red Devils took on Richfield. Grand dropped the first set 22-25. Then, Grand turned the game around and won the next three sets 25-17, 25-23 and 25-18. They were great wins for Grand after losing to Richfield at a tournament the week before.
The next day, Oct. 13, Grand went to Monroe to face off with South Sevier. The first set came down to the wire, with Grand squeaking by 26-24. South Sevier took the next 22-25, but Grand bounced back and won the following by the same margin, 25-22. The Rams pulled out a narrow win in the fourth set, 24-26. The deciding fifth set was a hard-fought battle. Grand managed to come out on top with a too-close-for-comfort 16-14 win to take the match.
Following the successful weekend trip, the Red Devils’ record sits at 9-9 on the season. The wins lifted Grand up in the Region 15 standings, bringing the team to a tie with Emery for fourth place.
Grand’s final game of the regular season will be away against rival San Juan. The game was played on Tuesday, Oct. 16, after The Times-Independent went to press. The volleyball season concludes with the state championship tournament at Utah Valley University in Orem on Oct. 24 and 25.
