Voters don’t need to be treated like children

Dear Editor,

Lynn Jackson’s recent “My View” column omits the most important fact about HB 224: The legislation was totally unnecessary.

Before HB 224, citizens already had the right to propose a change in form of government. Our local Republicans have tried this twice in recent years, most recently in 2012. Both times Grand County voters said “No!” to the proposed change by a wide margin. Our current non-partisan form of government is clearly the one voters prefer but no longer have the option.

HB 224 did not give Grand County any new options, it simply took away the option voters like best. Clearly the voters do not need to be treated like children who can’t make their own decisions.
