Steven Nicol was born June 19, 1945 in Moab, Utah to John and Gladys Nicol. Steven passed away Nov. 7, 2018 in the loving home of his son, Patrick. He graduated from Grand County High School.
Steven married Gayle Greenwell in 1969 and later divorced. He married Debbie King in 1976 and later divorced. Steven and Debbie were blessed with two children, Patrick and Joshua. At the age of 17, he enlisted in the U.S. Army where he was trained as a heavy equipment operator. He used this training as he served in the Vietnam War. He worked in the mining industry after returning to civilian life.
In 1973, he was injured in a mining explosion resulting in the loss of his right hand and left eye. He became a journeyman welder in Maryland, where he excelled in his trade. Returning to Moab in 1994, he worked at City Market until he retired.
He was preceded in death by his parents John and Gladys and his two brothers, John and Louie.
He is survived by his son, Patrick; son, Joshua; stepdaughter, Angie; seven grandchildren; and sister, Nina Groth.
Services will be noon, Thursday, Nov. 15 at the Spanish Valley Mortuary, 386 North 100 West, in Moab. There was a viewing from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 14, and there will be a viewing from 11 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. Thursday Nov. 15. Steven was blessed with a loving family, Rose, a good friend and many other friends throughout his life. He will be greatly missed.
