“To the immediate and workplace families of Russell Helquist, Matthew Johnston and Arthur ‘Buddy’ Secrest, our deepest sympathies are extended to you during this difficult time,” said Grand County Council Chair Mary McGann, reading an official note of condolence to the family and friends of the three Moab area men who died in an industrial accident at Intrepid Potash on Nov. 10.

“There is a great emptiness left in our community after the loss of these three great men,” she continued. “It will take a search far and wide in Grand County to find someone who was not blessed to have known them. Intrepid Potash serves as an anchor institution in Grand County and we acknowledge that workplace relationships in existence are tightknit and serve as a family away from home. Our heartfelt condolences go out for those who lost their family, friends and loved ones.”

McGann read the letter following a moment of silence for the men held at the beginning of Tuesday’s Grand County Council meeting. Afterward, Intrepid Potash Plant Manager Brandon Botosh was given three plants in honor of the men who died.
