With Thanksgiving just around the corner, many Moabites decided to get a head start burning off the extra calories by participating in the 24th annual Turkey Trot 5K on Saturday, Nov. 17.
Evan Ellison narrowly defeated Grady Anderson by a single second to claim the title of first overall finisher with a time of 17:26.
In the male 14 and under category, Samuel Camey led the way. Bella Welch finished first in the female 14 and under category. Evan Ellison won the male 15-19 category while Grady Anderson led in the male 20-34 category. Leann Trim finished first among females age 20-34. In the category for ages 35-49, Derrick Saggboy was the top male finisher and Danelle Ballengee led the women. Jim Lewis won the male 50 plus category while Laura Reed topped the women in that age group.
Alese Overly won the fastest stroller category, which did require the stroller contain at least one human occupant. In the fastest human-canine duo category, Danelle Ballengee and her dog took the honors.
The event marked another successful year for one of Moab’s most fun and casual races.
