A fully loaded semi-truck drifted into a ditch just south of milepost 123 on Highway 191 around 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, seriously injuring the driver.
The Utah Highway Patrol reports the truck hit a tree, which ripped off the driver’s door and split the aluminum skin of the trailer, spewing contents out as the semi came to a stop in a deeper hole.
Boxes of plastic food tubs and other dry goods littered the ditch. The driver and only occupant of the truck, Alabe Garza, is a 13-year veteran of Sharp Transportation out of Logan. Garza was pinned in the cab until Moab Valley Fire Department rescuers could cut him free and EMS transported him to Moab Regional Hospital in serious condition.
