The Grand County High School football stadium is the site of three college regular season lacrosse games that will be played over the weekend, beginning at 6 p.m. Friday, Feb. 22, when the Fort Lewis Skyhawks of Durango, Colorado take on the Utah State University Aggies.
The Aggies square off against the University of Wyoming Cowboys at noon Saturday, Feb. 23, and USU and Fort Lewis play again at 11:30 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 24.
The schools are members of the Men’s Collegiate Lacrosse Association (MCLA), competing in Division II’s Rocky Mountain Lacrosse Conference, said Fort Lewis College men’s lacrosse coach Tom Mudrak in an email.
There are eight teams in the conference, which is split between north and south divisions with USU and Wyoming joining Montana State and Northern Colorado in the north, and Fort Lewis, Metro State, CU-Denver and Colorado Mines in the south.
“We’d love to have some of the locals come out to watch, and want to make this an annual event with more colleges involved,” said Mudrak, who believes these will be the first college-level lacrosse games ever played in Moab.
The Moab games are the season opener for Wyoming and Fort Lewis, said Mudrak, and divisional games for Wyoming and USU.
