Thankful for outreach after cyclone

Editor,

I would like to thank the many people who have reached out to ask if my daughter, Jessica and her family are okay in the aftermath of the tropical cyclone Idai that hit Mozambique last week.

Jessica and her family live in Mozambique’s capital, which is about 700 miles from where the storm hit. They are fine though the already impoverished country is reeling from the disaster.

It is estimated that 60,000 people were still clinging to treetops and roofs awaiting rescue and over 500,000 people lost their homes. As of March 20, there were only five helicopters available to help in rescue efforts.

If you would like to make a contribution to the relief efforts, I would suggest a donation to Health Alliance International, the agency for which Jessica’s husband, Jamie works, Catholic Relief Services, Doctors Without Borders, or the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies. All of these have dedicated Mozambique relief funds and up-to-date information.

Your caring, thoughts and prayers make a difference.
