Ryan Shupe & The Rubberband to play Moab July 4 at Swanny Park

County contracts for fireworks display

The City of Moab and Moab Chamber of Commerce have landed Ryan Shupe & The Rubberband to perform in concert July 4 at Swanny Park. The band will take the stage to end the night.

The party begins at noon at the park, and a post on one of the city’s social media accounts promised “lots of food, fun and activities throughout the day.”

Meanwhile, the Grand County Council earlier this month approved spending $27,000 on a contract with Vortex Fireworks Artists. Vortex was one of two companies to submit a bid. According to Grand County Administrator Ruth Dillon, the selection committee gave the nod to Vortex in part because of the “positive feedback” received following last year’s display – and the fact Vortex agreed to come to Moab with little notice.

Grand County will contribute $13,000, the City of Moab $9,000 and the Recreation District will chip in the remaining $5,000.

The vote passed 6-0. Council Member Jaylyn Hawks was not present.
