Donald A. Sim, 88, a resident of Moab, Utah since 2003, died May 28, 2019 in the Canyonlands Care Center.
He was born Nov. 16, 1930 in Cripple Creek, Colorado to William (Scotty) Simpson Sim and Hazel Dolores (King) Sim. They moved to California and then to Ouray, Colorado, where he went to high school and then joined the Navy for a short period of time being honorably discharged.
Don married the love of his life, Addie (Israel), on Aug. 20, 1950. They lived in Ouray for a while then moved to Ridgway, Colorado.
Don worked in the mines and for the Colorado Department of Transportation until his retirement. Don joined the Ouray County Sheriff Posse in the late ’60s and became a captain in 1974. He was a lifetime member of the Ouray Elk’s Lodge #492. He also was a member of the Masonic lodge and was a Master Mason.
Survivors include his daughters, Beckie Perez, Donna Johnston (Bill); grandchildren, Heidi Perez (Melena), Clint Johnston and Casey Johnston (Ronnie); great grandchildren, Makenzie, Makayla and Kaycee Johnston.
He was preceded in death by wife, Addie; his parents, Scotty and Hazel; a half-brother, Bill King and a sister, Niki.
Don loved the outdoors, hunting and fishing, and taught his daughters how to do both. He loved his dogs. He was an avid reader and enjoyed football (go Broncos). Don loved working with his hands and made many things, and he enjoyed just putzing around in his garage.
At Don’s request, cremation has taken place and the family has planned to have a celebration of life at a later date.
