The Moab Mosquito Abatement District after public concerns were raised has decided to limit tonight’s fogging activity to the eastern boundary of the Matheson Wetland Preserve.
“We will not be going into neighborhoods,” said Libby Nance, mosquito district director.
Concerns raised on social media that malathion or other potentially harmful pesticides or insecticides were unfounded, said Nance. The active ingredient in the fog is pyrethrins, a naturally occurring substance harvested from chrysanthemums. A synthetic version also is available. It degrades within four to six hours.
