Avalanche destruction

According to the Canyonlands Natural History Association newsletter, a large avalanche in March destroyed everything in its path on a section of the La Sal Mountains, as this photograph shows.

The disturbance is “a necessary component of a healthy forest,” and new aspens, grasses and flowers are already growing in the slide patch, according to CNHA. This area is below Mount Tukuhnikivatz, which can be seen in the background.
