A fast-moving brush fire in Thompson late Sunday afternoon was prevented from reaching several homes, according to Thompson Springs Fire Chief Mark Marcum.

Marcum said the fire was called in just before 3:50 p.m. and was contained to a single acre after a downed power pole sparked the blaze. “Quick work by local residents and the Thompson Springs Fire Department kept any structures from being burned,” said Marcum.

The Utah Highway Patrol, Moab Valley Fire Department and Grand County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the call.
