Joyce Ellen McCormack, age 63, passed away peacefully on Thursday, Aug. 1, 2019 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Grand Junction.
Joyce was born April 30, 1956 in Independence, Kansas to Gerald Allen and Billie Jean McCormack. Joyce spent her younger years in Coon Hollow, Oregon. In her early 20s she moved to Redmond, Oregon. In the mid 1990s Joyce relocated to Moab, Utah where she met the love of her life, Steve.
Joyce was independent and hardworking. In her younger years she often worked two jobs. During her life she held many different positions in the hospitality industry. Joyce liked pleasing others, whether she was preparing food in a restaurant, or making sure things were clean and comfortable for a night’s stay.
Joyce loved to prepare meals for friends and family. She was an excellent cook. Around the holidays her home would be filled with mouthwatering smells. She especially loved cooking corned beef and cabbage, showing off her Irish roots! Being outdoors made Joyce happy, whither she was on the beach along the Oregon coast, or camping in the La Sal Mountains. Joyce was also fond of gardening. Yellow roses were her favorite flowers.
Joyce is survived by her life companion, Steve Maucotel, son Glendon, (Amy) Knutson, daughter Tera Kay Murrell and grandson Xander. She is also survived by brother Mark Eugene McCormack and sister Linda Sue McCormack, along with many other family members and friends. Joyce will be greatly missed.
