Topic: ‘A World Without Alzheimer’s’
The Moab Rotary Club invites the public to a guest lecture Monday, Aug. 19 at noon on the topic of dementia and Alzheimer’s disease, according to the Moab club’s president, Britta Kingsley.
Mark Dixon, program director for the Utah chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association, will be speaking on the topic, “A World Without Alzheimer’s.” He will explain how dementia is related to Alzheimer’s disease and speak about the risk factors and who may be susceptible. He will also talk about research and progress that is being made toward a cure.
According to Kingsley, the Alzheimer’s Association has been working for more than 25 years to fight the disease and increase the public’s understanding of dementia, its impacts on family and community, and to provide information and support for those affected. It also promotes the advancement of research.
The event will occur in the Learning Room of Moab Regional Hospital from noon to 1 p.m. Dixon oversees the chapter’s programs and service efforts, and has had personal experiences supporting close family members who have lived with the conditions of dementia.
“Please join us for this free and informal meeting, to get to know more about what you may have to deal with in the future either for yourself or a loved one,” said Kingsley.
