UDOT to conduct safety work near La Sal Jct.

The Utah Department of Transportation will begin a two-mile safety improvement project on U.S. Highway 191 as early as Monday, Aug. 19 between La Sal Junction and Hole-‘N’-The-Rock that will require regular road closures to accommodate blasting.

The project aims to improve recovery for vehicles that wander from the travel lanes, by excavating into existing rock cuts and upgrading barriers to new standards or removing barriers where slopes can be leveled.

Full road closures of up to 45 minutes may occur Monday through Thursday before 8:30 a.m. and after 6 p.m. to protect the safety of both workers and travelers, UDOT officials said in a press release. Single lane closures with alternating traffic and delays of up to 20 minutes may be anticipated at other times.
