Two pedestrians, one male and one female, were struck by a car and killed on Main Street near Kane Creek Boulevard as they were crossing the street Thursday night at 9:00 p.m.

According to Moab Police Chief Bret Edge, the two were crossing a part of the street where there was no crosswalk. A southbound car struck them as they went across.

Edge said that he could not yet release names of the deceased because next of kin notifications are still pending. He said the two were visiting Moab from Ohio.

“The driver of the involved vehicle immediately pulled into a hotel parking lot to await law enforcement,” the police department later said in a Facebook post. “Initial information indicates that the pedestrians were crossing outside of a designated crosswalk and that the vehicle was traveling at or less than the posted speed limit of 35 MPH. The vehicle driver was uninjured.”
