The Red Devils football team improved to 2-1 with a road win on Friday, Aug. 30, by beating the Union Cougars 25-18 at Union High School, in Roosevelt.
Union scored first. The Cougars picked up a field goal with a little more than four minutes left in the first quarter. Dante Wells gave Grand a 7-3 lead less than two minutes later with a six-yard touchdown run. Wells kicked a field goal in the second quarter and it was 10-3 in favor of Grand at halftime.
The Cougars briefly tied Grand County 10-10 in the third with a touchdown at about the 9:30 mark. The Red Devils responded with a 35-yard touchdown scamper from Wells three minutes later and Grand went up 17-10. Union had another touchdown in the third to go up 18-17 at the end of the third.
Brayden Troutt had a one-yard touchdown run early in the fourth quarter and the Red Devils were up 25-18 to end the scoring.
The Red Devils will take on the South Summit Wildcats at home Friday, Sept. 6 in a rematch of the 2018 state championship game.
