Tennis team has mixed outing

The Red Devils girls tennis team competed in the St. George Invitational on Friday, Sept. 6 and Saturday, Sept. 7.

Kyla Jackman had a Grand time at the tournament. She won three out of four of her second set of singles matches, including one tiebreaker. Jackman beat Viewmont 6-4, 7-6 (8-6), Cedar Valley 6-0, 6-0 and Delta 6-3, 6-2. Jackman lost to Ogden 6-4, 6-7, (8-10).

Maara Holyoak had the first singles spot and lost 2-6, 3-6 to Viewmont, 2-6, 2-6 to Ogden and 3-6, 3-6 to Delta. Holyoak beat Cedar Valley 6-0, 6-1.

Third singles had a tough time at the tournament. Chloe Talbot had the third spot and she lost to Viewmont 1-6, 0-6 and Ogden 1-6. 0-6. Molly Knowles also played third singles and lost 5-7, 5-7 to Cedar City and 2-6, 3-6 to Delta.

First doubles, Jenna Hawks and Julia Crane, beat Delta 6-3, 5-7, (10-4). Hawks and Crane lost to Viewmont 2-6, 1-6 and Ogden 4-6, 5-7. Hawks and Crane also fell to Cedar Valley 5-7, 7-6, (7-3), 8-10.

Jenny Kopell and Stella McGowan played second doubles for the Lady Red Devils and they went 2-2. Kopell/McGowan lost 2-6, 3-6 to Viewmont, beat Cedar Valley 6-1, 6-0, lost 5-7, 6-1, (11-13) to Delta, and beat Ogden 6-4, 6-3.

The Red Devils will be in Moab for homecoming and take on South Sevier and Richfield on Thursday, Sept. 19.
